A lot of great things happened in 2015 – My adorable niece was born (that’s her in the photo, having a fun time ringing in the New Year), I got a new job, I went to Puerto Rico, turned 30, and overall, had a ton of fun. As the year closes out, there are definitely some things I want to make a priority in 2016 that I don’t think I did a good job of making a priority in 2015.
Travel more. Going to Puerto Rico was a huge eye opener for me. I’ve barely been anywhere and there is so much out there I want to see. Nate and I sort of made a pact to start traveling more, so we are planning a trip to Santa Fe as a 30th birthday present to each other. Pretty excited about it!
Save money. Now I know what you’re thinking, how am I going to save any money if I’m going to be traveling more? Well, I have no idea what the answer is, but I hear at my age people start buying houses so, maybe I should try?
Get off the couch. This one is going to be hard. I love my couch and I’ve had it for about three years so it’s nice and broken in. Too many nights I spend sitting on my butt watching Roseanne or Netflix or a movie that is really badly rated but I give it a shot anyway (do yourself a favor and DON’T watch Fifty Shades of Grey… or Jenny’s Wedding). I used to go out so much more and see local music or just find stuff to do. I think this resolution will be much more manageable once the weather gets better.
Read more. I have six books on my nightstand that I have started and haven’t finished, and it has been this way for months. I’m also in a book club for one of them, which hasn’t helped me buckle down. I’m promising myself that I’ll start reading every night for at least 15 minutes. It is so sad to admit I’m MAKING myself do this. I used to read every day for hours. All that dedication wasted on the Twilight series 🙁
Write more. I majored in creative writing, which is hilarious because aside from this blog, I really don’t write. A lot of it is because I often don’t like what I write. I also find that I get inspired at really useless times, like when I’m going for a walk, or when I’m at the movies or driving somewhere. To rectify this, I’m trying to get out of my apartment on the weekends and go to a coffee shop to dedicate some time to this. I’m sure I’ll churn out the next great American novel in no time!
So while I like things that are short and sweet, I think I’m going to keep mulling these over and see what else I can add on (keeping in mind that I should try and accomplish them).
What are some of your New Year’s resolutions?
