Well, it’s here, actually. Today I realized it. It’s the time of year when you’re barely able to make the walk from your house to the car without a serious pep talk.
Despite the plummeting temperatures, there is a calmness now that is constantly in the air. The cold seems to eat any noise, wrap it up inside itself and hold it hostage until spring. With this comes a stark (unintended Game of Thrones pun) prettiness that usually goes unnoticed, upstaged by the cold. I find myself wishing for snow for the first time in years.
Nate and I managed to get in one more hike before the weather turned and it was one of my favorite hikes yet. The air was chilly but not too much so, and the colors were muted and deep.
I doubt we’ll be doing much hiking for a while. Instead, we’ll swap in some puzzles, (possibly Legos!), Netflix and long afternoons reading or couching. If anyone has some activities that help them pass the long winter months, please send them my way!
